Lift-irrigation is a method of irrigation in which water instead of being transported by natural flow requires external energy through animal, fuel based or electric power using pumps or other mechanical means. The oil engine and centrifugal pump are recognized as satisfactory combination for lifting water wherever the quantity to be dealt with is large enough. Moreover considerable progress has been made with mechanically driven water lifts specially designed to deal with smaller quantities of water. Mechanical methods of lifting water are so much cheaper than the indigenous methods. This book encompasses a wide range of themes and issues such as water lifts, well irrigation, underground water supply, irrigation with oil engines, irrigation from artesian wells, wind mills irrigation, cost of power and lifting water, flow of water in sand, well boring, steam pumps and irrigation by pumping etc. This publication would serve as a valuable book for students, teachers and researchers in the fields of agronomy, agriculture and agricultural engineering.
