E. C. Stakman was an American Plant Pathologist who was a pioneer of methods of identifying and combating disease in wheat. He was Professor Emeritus, University of Minnesota and Special Consultant for Agriculture, the Rockefeller Foundation. He published more than 300 papers, as well as several books. Dr. Stakman held honorary membership in thirteen scientific societies in the United States and Japan. He was President of the American Phytopathological Society in 1922 and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1949.

J. George Harrar was an eminent Plant Pathologist served as Professor and Head of the Division of Plant Pathology of the Agricultural Experiment Station at Washington State College. He served as Director of Agriculture, as trustee and President at the Rockfeller Foundation. He was a member of countless committees, board, and organization including the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society and the Near East Foundation. He received innumerable awards from nations in which he had worked and more than dozen honorary degrees.
