The book, Situating Education, Employment and Economy of Scheduled Tribes of North East India, explores an association of education, employment and economy emphasising on Scheduled Tribes (ST) population of North Eastern Region (NER) of India. The development of education has concurrently led to a change in employment and economic structure from farm to non-farm employment and income. This book deals with the education, employment and economy of Scheduled Tribes; the settings of the region such as geographical, administrative, household type, agriculture and industrial development; the region’s educational development such as literacy rates, school enrolment, dropout rate, educational expenditure and its infrastructure emphasising on STs; the aspects of employment such as labour force participation rates, workforce participation rate, and education and industry specific employment; the general patterns and trends of the economy and economic growth of NER with special reference to the ST dominated states; and the situation of education, employment and the economic condition of Manipur’s ST that can be inferred to some extent for the region’s ST.

Reimeingam Marchang (1977) currently teaches at Institute for Social and Economic Change (under ICSSR) Bangalore, Karnataka (India). He holds PhD in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Before joining to the ISEC, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Central University of Sikkim, Gangtok and Research Associate in the Institute for Human Development, Delhi. His broad interest of research work includes labour market studies, migration studies, human resource development, regional economy and regional development. He has solely authored and published 21 papers in journals, as book chapters and working papers published by national and international publishers including Routledge and Sage; and 44 general articles in newspapers and magazine. Two solely authored papers are forthcoming: one as journal paper and one as edited book chapter being published by Routledge. Nine solely authored papers have been submitted to different reputed journals and are under various stages for publication. He has also contributed as a team member and consultant for four projects sponsored by the then Planning Commission, Government of India. He, as project director, has completed two research projects sponsored by ISEC and ICSSR. Currently, he is working on a research project on “North-East Migrants in Bangalore: Employability Issues, Challenges and Prospects”. He has presented 19 papers and four papers discussant in seminar and conference in India and abroad. In 2014 he also represented for India for “The 2014 Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor (Chengdu) Development Forum” held at Chengdu (China). He is recognized as PhD guide in Economics and Development Studies and is currently guiding five PhD students. He is the current editor of Working Paper Series of ISEC.
